I’m starting to see it daily — the rising wave of criticism against Solopreneurship.
Sure, it's not for everyone, but that's exactly the point.
My aim isn't to convert you into a believer of solopreneurship. My purpose is simply to let you know that you have options.
Ignore the Extremes
It's easy to get caught up in trending narratives, especially when they're flooding your social media feeds on Twitter and LinkedIn.
These days, the solopreneur lifestyle is either glamorized as the ultimate dream or criticized as a delusional, unscalable fantasy.
But the truth is that both are extremes and neither captures the nuanced reality of being a one-person business.
You can choose to be a solopreneur, running every aspect of your business single-handedly.
It comes with its set of challenges — mastering a variety of different business skills, juggling tasks, developing good systems, and the occasional loneliness.
But it also offers unparalleled freedom and control.
Or you can choose the traditional entrepreneur’s route and build a team that helps bring your vision to reality.
I hear it all of the time.
“Just hire people!”
But hiring employees, having difficult conversations, vacation policies, offering benefits, maternity/paternity leave, legal issues, firing people, etc. isn’t some big piece of cake.
As someone who has managed teams of 150+ people for a decade, I’m no dummy when it comes to the challenges.
I know better than that.
Finding What Suits You
In the end, the right path depends on what aligns with your goals and values.
Want freedom and flexibility without the headache of employees? Solopreneurship might be right for you.
Want an unparalleled opportunity to scale your business to $10M? Traditional entrepreneurship might be exactly what you’re looking for.
Or maybe it’s neither and working a corporate role until you retire is exactly right for you and your family.
Remember, the key is to do what's best for you. Don’t let trending topics or popular opinion dictate your future.
You have the power to choose your path, so make it count.
