I'm a therapist, not a realist.

Last week, I finished another post about work-life balance. Then, at 8 p.m., I found myself scrolling Twitter — exactly what I tell people not to do.

The irony is not lost on me.

I write about eating dinner with my wife every night. But sometimes, my mind is somewhere else, thinking about work. I talk about reading books and immersing myself in nature, but there are certainly days when Netflix and a glass of wine win instead.

So here's something worth writing out loud:

My content isn't a perfect reflection of my life.

The way I think about it — it's more like a form of therapy.

When I write about setting boundaries and building a life-first business, I'm writing to remind myself what I'm working toward. My content isn’t always about tough lessons I've mastered. Most of the time I’m reflecting on aspirations I'm still chasing.

A few weeks ago, I wrote about saying no to opportunities that don't serve your ideal lifestyle. That came shortly after I said yes to a project I shouldn't have accepted. That experience prompted me to say no to another thing.

And that’s when I wrote about saying no.

See what I mean by therapy? I’m kind of teaching myself through a public journal. (And thank you for reading.)

Permission to Be Human

Sometimes, when I write a piece of content, I delete it immediately. How can I write about this ideal when I don’t always live up to it?

But I'm not writing as someone who has it all figured out. I'm writing as someone trying to figure it out, just like you. The truth is, life is one long experience of a million lessons. And nobody has it all figured out.

My friend (who runs a seven-figure business) texted me the other day:

"I read your post about condensing your work into 2-3 hours in the middle of the day. Love it!! But midnight rolled around and here I am still working. LOL.

We're all constant works in progress at every level of success.

What I Want You to Know

My social media isn't a documentary about my life. It's more like a personal vision board that I share publicly. When I write about having an ideal day, I do so because I know how good it feels on the days I actually do it, not because I always nail it.

I still overwork sometimes. I forget to follow my own advice. I look at my phone more than I should. And I take on projects that don't align with my values.

And this is all okay. Because life isn't about perfection. It’s about direction!

So when I talk about building a better life through business, I'm documenting the path I'm trying hard to follow, not the destination I've reached.

My hope is that by walking a few steps ahead of you and sharing notes from my own stumbles and victories, we can both learn something along the way.

Parting Note

The next time you read something from me, remember I’m not always writing about topics I've mastered — but ideals I'm working toward. Some days I get close, and other days I fall way short.

And maybe that's the most valuable thing I can share: not perfect examples, but honest ones.

Because we're all trying to build something better while being perfectly imperfect humans.

That's all for today.

See you next week.
